Biography
Gisele Bündchen was born on July 20, 1980 in Três de Maio in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. Her father was a bank employee and her mother a teacher and writer. Bündchen grew up in a family with five sisters, including her (not identical) twin sister Patricia.
Initially, Bündchen wanted to become a professional volleyball player. Her dream was to play for the national volleyball team in Brazil. In 1993 her mother convinced her to participate in a modeling course together with her sisters Patrícia and Gabriela. Gisele was 13-years old at that time. The course, given by Dilson Stein, was designed for teenagers who wanted to become a model.
The following year Stein took Bündchen along with some other girls to São Paulo to give them the chance to be chosen by fashion agents. She was chosen for a national model election, in which she became second, after Claudia Menezes.
Later she became fourth in a world election on the Spanish island of Ibiza. In 1996 Bündchen moved to New York to reinforce her modeling career. This was only the start of a very exciting career for Gisele Bündchen.
